And just like his other half, readers of this blog know Tony Ortega is driven by bigotry and hate.
While working at The Village Voice, Ortega served as a principal apologist of the sex trafficking website Backpage.
Tony Ortega is a fake news monger who, under no circumstances should be trusted. The same goes for the shady individuals he chooses to associate with. Here on the blog we’ve discussed a number of Tony Ortega’s known accomplices, all whom have demonstrated themselves time and again to be at best unreliable and unethical, at worst dangerously comprised.
It’s with that in mind that we turn our attention this week once more to Tony Ortega’s “ethically compromised” wife, Arielle Irena Silverstein.

When James Larkin and Michael Lacey, the pimp runners of the Village Voice Media, finally shoved their prostitution propagandist-in-chief Tony Ortega over the side of their sinking garbage barge in the most dishonorable discharge that rag of paper had ever seen, the cheers of a grateful nation were almost deafening. We, along with many literate Americans, believed we had seen the last him. After all, this was Tony Ortega’s umpteenth unceremonious firing.

In the same way Tony Ortega went to bat for his old bosses Michael Lacey and James Larkin over at the Backpage in their pursuit of building a half-billion dollar enterprise from the sale of children to online perverts for sex, Tony and Arielle seem to attract unsavory scumbags in their personal and professional lives the way a sack of hot garbage attracts flies.

Between 2011 and July 2012, Tony Ortega, then Editor-in-Chief of the Village Voice, launched a biased oppo-research campaign on organizations and individuals who attempted to report on sex trafficking in the United States.
Clearly Ortega was tasked by his employers, James Larking and Michael Lacey, to do damage control against the numerous accusations being levied against Backpage.
For as much as we’ve talked about the dangers of Tony Ortega’s hate-blog and the work of his former employers at the sleazy sex selling site, Backpage, it could be helpful to take a moment to set each in its proper context.
For example, Tony Ortega’s ‘angry troll on the internet’ routine generates so little actual revenue that it really must be considered more hobby than ‘job’. For all the time Ortega seems to fritter away over his pet obsession, he must be making embarrassingly little money from it – what’s more embarrassing is that he is living off of his wife, Arielle Silverstein, salary.

We’ve discussed how, now over half a decade out of work, Ortega has been sponging off his wife, Arielle Silverstein, and possibly her parent’s fortune to continue his one-man obsessive crusade against Scientology.
Tony Ortega’s “journalistic” career began with The Phoenix New Times in the mid 90’s when the company’s then flagship paper, The New Times, became part of the Village Voice Media merger in 2005.
After a four-year stint as staff writer, Ortega wrote for The New Times Los Angeles for three years before returning to become Associate Editor of The Phoenix New Times. Following this, he became managing editor of The New Times-owned The Pitch, in Kansas City, where he worked from 2003-2005 before leaving to become editor of the New Times Broward-Palm Beach.
When Tony Ortega “lost” his job as editor of the Village Voice in September 2012, it was more than a humiliating demotion. It was an unceremonious descent into obscurity, an involuntary downsizing to a laptop in a New York apartment, spinning stories and strangling truth on a little-read and virtually incomprehensible weblog.
Before being booted from the Village Voice, besides being known (and widely ridiculed within and without his own industry) for his obsession with writing biased and misleading stories about the Church of Scientology, Ortega was notorious as the poster boy for sex-trafficking ads.
