The Passive Persistence of Tony Ortega’s Lies
We’ve been talking about the malicious practice of grooming, or preparing innocent victims for exploitation by unscrupulous operators, like Tony Ortega’s former bosses over at the notorious Backpage sex trafficking site.
We mentioned yesterday about an interesting case of a woman in Texas who survived her Backpage ordeal and is now taking the fight to the platforms that allowed, through their willful inaction and callous indifference, for the trafficking of countless women and children on their watch. Her suit targets Backpage and Facebook both for the roles they played.
The lawsuit cites in particular a National Center for Missing and Exploited Children statistic which attributes the 836% increase in suspected child sex trafficking between 2010-14 to ‘increased use of the internet’. This comes as little shock to those of us familiar with the handiwork of Tony Ortega’s pals at Backpage. This was, after all, what their entire business model was based around.
Of course, Tony Ortega would have you believe Backpage was founded on First Amendment principles and merely provided a service to consenting adults who knew what they were doing. But then, Tony Ortega is a well-established liar. His bought-and-paid-for opinions are simply not to be trusted under any circumstance.
Was it the choice of the young woman in Texas to have been raped, beaten and forced into sex trafficking? To be made to perform sex acts at America’s Inn in order to prove her subservience to her Backpage pimps?
Were the lies told to her by pimps, profiteers and propagandists like Tony Ortega before she was sold to degenerate perverts on Backpage merely an act of ‘Free Speech’?
By no means!
Sites like Facebook and Tony Ortega’s ‘champion of free expression’ Backpage sat back and silently permitted criminals to use the platform in their hunt for victims, as well as facilitating, even promoting the trade.
Businesses built to take advantage of sexually exploitable women and children need to be taken to task for their part, however passive, in the sex trafficking trade.
No amount of First Amendment grandstanding is going to fool anyone this time, Tony Ortega.
